The Green BIKES Program

Because I Have Knowledge and Experience I can Succeed!  The Green BIKES Program started in the Spring of 2006, and in the past year the program has grown and flourished.  Bikes have even been spotted as far afield as Lebanon and Corvallis.  High school and adult volunteers toil away fixing bikes in the "bike shop", a classroom in the old Middle School in Waldport, so that they may be put out onto the streets for anyone to ride.  The bikes are painted a bright green so they can easily be spotted.  Volunteers ensure that all of the bikes have a matching green helmet and anyone in need of a helmet may stop by the shop.

Volunteers are always needed and experience fixing bikes is not necessary.  The shop is open every Saturday at 9:30am during the Saturday morning breakfast.  Stop by and paint a bike!  Winter months are used to fix and stock pile bikes so that a large number is ready to roll out for the summer months.

How to use the Green BIKES:

1.  Find a Green BIKE

2. Ride the Green BIKE

3. Tie the Green BIKE with the provided rope if a you need to make a stop but wish to continue riding

4. Leave the BIKE in a bike rack, on a sidewalk, against a building, etc. for someone else to ride.

Please do not dump bikes in ditches, the ocean, or other area that may damage the bike or inhibit riding access.
